What's It Like Working in an Adult Store in Newcastle? ā Emma's Perspective
Ever had an adult entertainer also work at an Adult Store in Newcastle? Can't say theres many of them.
The first and foremost important part of my job here at Confessions Boutique is making sure that every person that walks in the door is already feeling at ease to be able to shop comfortably. It warms my heart knowing I can convert a shy and timid customer to someone who is open minded, isn't afraid to ask questions and genuinely leaves with a feeling of wonder and awe.
I understand that a lot of people can be very intimidated as the nature of this store is considered very taboo, but I am trying to change that! What's considered 'TMI' is everyday conversations I have with my friends, and I like to show people that there is nothing wrong with having such conversations (of course there is a time and a place š).
I work as a stripper locally outside of the Adult Store store on weekends. I find that this also sparks conversations that aren't heard of and theres a huge stigma around that choice of work, so it's a great feeling being able to gently educate people on the common misconceptions of adult entertainment.
Working in that industry has given me charisma skills and I am able to mirror peoples personalities, which allows me to quickly form connections with customers that come into store.
However, some men see this as an opportunity. Being in a store where the topic of sex and pleasure is the main conversation, they seem to think that warrants me as a person being interested in them and their romantic desires, so they can be very suggestive sometimes. Lucky for me, I have learned to put up boundaries and can make it very clear - I am not interested in you, I am only interested in helping you choose a product that's right for you or a partner.
As any job can come with challenges, here at Confessions Boutique, they are quickly resolved with a bit of persistence and self confidence.Ā
